HELP ALERT 03.22.07
SB 392 Moves To House Education Committee
As expected, SB 392, a bill
to compel parents to send their children to government schools at a younger
age, has been assigned to the House Education Committee after its passage
in the Senate.
This is were the next battle will be, and although the House Committee
is somewhat more rational than the Senate Committee, there will still
be a tough battle to stop this dangerous legislation.
Please contact the members of the Committee and urge them not to legislate
more government interference in rights of parents to direct their children's
education.
For quick contact info for Committee members, please use this link.
For some documentation that demonstrates that forcing children into school
at earlier ages does NOT benefit them, please see this report.(Acrobat
required)
A sample message follows:
Dear Representative,
SB 392 has been assigned to your Education Committee.
This bill forces parents to send their children to school at an earlier
age. Some of the proponents of the bill made it clear that they would
like to drop that age even more.
This bill is an attack on parental autonomy and authority. Parents are
the best judge of the needs of their children. Their rights to direct
their children's education should not trampled.
The supporters of this bill claim it is needed to compel attendance of
6 year olds who enroll in school but do not attend regularly. This goal
could easily be accomplished by simply requiring children who HAVE enrolled
to attend. This bill goes far beyond that and I urge you to oppose it.
Very truly yours,
