House Bill 2979 is one of the most aggressive attacks on home schooling in years. In addition to requiring that you register every year with the government, it demands that you turn over your child to the state schools immediately if they do not meet some, not yet disclosed, benchmark. It also requires you to turn over your test results to the Educational Service District. Currently those scores are only required when requested. This bill was sponsored by Paul Holvey who also sponsored HB 2996, a bill intended to institute state control over private schools. |
